The Worst House on the Best Street. And Yes, I Bought It

Let’s get one thing straight: I didn’t accidentally end up with the worst house on the best street. I bought it on purpose.

Most people drive down this road and go,“Wow, look at these houses!”Then they get to mine and go,“…Oh.”

And they’re right. It’s rough. The windows are older than most of the neighbours’ children. The roof looks like it’s one strong gust of wind away from filing for retirement. And the garden, well, let’s just say it’s less “English rose” and more “post-apocalyptic meadow.”

But here’s the thing: it’s on a great street in the best village. And that’s why I’m not scared of it. I see potential. I see value. I see numbers that make sense even when the wallpaper doesn’t.

“Yes, it needs work. But it’s on this street. And I believe it deserves better.”

Inside, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a bungalow that hasn’t seen a modern decision since about 1994. The kitchen works (barely). The living room is charming if your definition of charming includes peeling wallpaper “accent features.” And the garden… well, one day it will be beautiful. Right now it’s a wildlife charity.

Still, I walked around and thought:

“This house deserves to stand proud.”

And I stand by that. Because this is what I do: I find things that look a bit tragic, I run the numbers, and then I make them work.
